Job Description
General Responsibility: Serves as resource to ASCP members and staff on clinical practice related issues and oversees all activities of ASCP relating to clinical affairs. Support ASCP on projects or activities that require clinical knowledge and expertise. Keep staff informed of current clinical developments.

Respond to Members’ Clinical Practice-Related Inquiries

• Answer questions from members on clinical practice-related issues, such as regulations, geriatrics medication related topics, standards or practice, etc.

• Compile and disseminate reports (for internal use) on the number of inquiries, types of inquirers, and categories of questions

• Compile frequently asked questions and answers for broad dissemination to members and staff

Clinical Services

· Provide content for biweekly ASCP Clinical Connections newsletter

· Provide or review clinical content for ASCP.com

· Serve as liaison to member committees that the current president establishes in their leadership plan

Develop and Promote ASCP Products

• When necessary answer questions from Med-Pass or their customers regarding clinical product content

• Work with authors, editors, and/or technical experts to develop content for products; Director will be responsible for writing some product content

Support Other ASCP Departments

Membership Department

• Outline benefits of ASCP membership

Communications Department

• Review marketing materials, e-blasts, and other communications from a clinical perspective when needed

• Author or review articles published in The Consultant Pharmacist journal

• Provide frequently asked questions and answers to be inserted into a column in the journal and/or posted on the ASCP Web site

• Participate in meetings regarding the journal annually to provide suggestions on future articles

Education Department

• Provide advice and input on topics and speakers for educational meetings

• Present educational sessions at national and regional conferences and via

virtual webinars/audio conferences when requested

• Professional, Clinical and Government Affairs

Policy & Advocacy

• Collaborate on regulatory and legislative topics (e.g., federal nursing facility regulations, DEA, FDA, Board of Pharmacy issues) to determine policy positions, write formal comment letters, and disseminate necessary information to members as needed

Serve as ASCP Liaison to Outside Organizations/Coalitions

• Coalitions, Government agencies, etc. (e.g. NCCMERP, PQA, CMS, etc.)

• Regional/state consultant pharmacist meetings as needed

• Other association meetings (pharmacy, LTC)

· Coordinate ASCP response to requests for comment from other organizations on clinical topics (e.g. ASHP, AGS, etc.)

· Represent ASCP to FDA on clinical-related topics such as Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies, Safe Use Initiative, annual health professional conference, etc.

· Represent ASCP to CDC on immunization issues, and National Center for Health Statistics on LTC related issues

· ASCP liaison to AHRQ on relevant issues

· Serve as ASCP staff representative to designated coalitions (e.g. Pharmacy Quality Alliance)

Department Management

• Preparation and monitoring of department budget

• Internal meetings (e.g., Staff, P&A meetings, etc.)

Requirements
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Pharmacy Baccalaureate or PharmD degree and

three - five years of experience in long-term care pharmacy practice, consulting experience a must; dispensing and/or association experience a plus. Geriatric clinical knowledge and experience as a consultant pharmacist with knowledge of nursing facility issues, such as the State Operations Manual, survey procedures, Minimum Data Set, Quality Indicators and Quality Measures, etc.

Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Communication Skills: Public speaking and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with business and corporate executives at all levels; must be able to explain and train other staff on a managerial and peer level

Mathematical skills: Ability to develop, analyze and manage budgets

Reasoning Ability: Ability to demonstrate solutions-oriented decision-making

Other Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated management and organizational skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software programs

Work environment: Collaborative, detail-oriented work environment with multiple simultaneous projects

Some travel is required.
