The traveling Physician is aligned within the National EHRM Supplemental Staffing Unit (NESSU). NESSU is a collaboration of clinical (Primary Care, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Mental Health providers) and administrative (Scheduling/Medical Support Assistants) staff that will serve every VHA medical facility across the enterprise as they adopt the new Electronic Health Record. This position assists facilities maintain Veteran access to care as they transition from CPRS to Cerner Millennium. Primary duties are to provide primary care services to patients at a VA facility as part of an interprofessional primary care team in the VHA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. In addition, the incumbent may also provide urgent or same day services for Veterans who contact a facility with more immediate or urgent needs. This position emphasizes evidence-based medicine, primary and secondary preventative medicine, the use of computerized medical record system and continuous quality improvement based on individualized provider data. The incumbent will use CPRS and Cerner during their deployment to a facility as the facility transitions from CPRS to Cerner platform. Training in Cerner Millennium will be provided. Major Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive care for Veterans or serve walk-ins or call-ins Perform initial histories and physical examination in an outpatient setting. This may include using Clinical Video Telehealth technology or VA Video Connect, if needed Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patient Screen outpatients to determine the new for further care Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms Review need for and order health promotion and disease prevention measures Initiate respond to and expediate request for consultations, special tests and studies Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs As appropriate, participate in interprofessional focused or ongoing patient chart reviews, team meetings, team huddles, and shared medical appointments Provides well-informed and enthusiastic collegial support to facility staff as they adopt the new electronic health records VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
