The Surgical Service Section of the Truman VA Medical Center provides surgical care in outpatient and inpatient settings throughout the facility. Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent and elective conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Surgical oncology, including coordinated multimodality management of the cancer patient by screening, surveillance, surgical adjunctive therapy, rehabilitation, and follow-up. Decide whether surgery is warranted, based on the patient's choices, records, test, condition and examinations. Determine the type of surgery that is needed, and other providers who will be required to perform the procedure. Perform procedures in accordance with facility policies. Maintain continuing education to keep current with medical knowledge and surgical techniques. Participate in the teaching of providers, patients, residents and students. Participate in committees.
