Job Summary
Provides technical support during testing in the Echocardiography Laboratory. May also provide clerical assistance to these areas, using judgment and initiative to complete tasks and assist with the daily operations and workflow of the lab. Supports ongoing maintenance of ultrasound and stress testing equipment in conjunction with service agreements. Technician meets the qualifications to provide care for the patients in the specific age range in their assigned laboratory.
Job Duties
- Hours: 7A-3:30P or 7A-7P
- Explains test procedures to the patient before their studies.
- Prepares inpatients and outpatients for noninvasive procedures such as exercise tests and transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiographic studies.
- This includes having patient change into appropriate gown, shave chest as appropriate, place ECG electrodes in proper location, insert intravenous line as ordered and prepare necessary paperwork.
- Operates Case ECG machine during testing, records heart rate, blood pressure, and any symptoms reported by the patient during testing.
- Assists exercise specialist and sonographer to monitor the ECG and blood pressure during stress testing procedures.
- Reports any problems or changes in patient condition to the test supervisor.
- Assists exercise and echo lab and medical staff during cardiac emergencies.
- Assists echo lab staff during transesophageal echoes by suctioning patients during the procedure.
- Ensures general maintenance and cleaning schedule of echo and exercise equipment.
- Cleans, maintains, and assembles probes for the Echo lab.
- Cleans, maintains, and assembles mouthpieces and tubing used for metabolic testing.
- Cleans ECG lead wires and blood pressure cuffs after each study.
- Orders supplies for the Adult Echo Lab, keeping all areas stocked with necessary materials.
- These supplies include but are not limited to those items ordered from the laundry, storeroom, Distribution, and pharmacy.
- Responsible for maintaining High Level Disinfection competency for the Adult Echo Lab staff.
- Responsible for actively participating in patient safety improvement and management program.
- Performs various clerical support as assigned: receive and prioritize phone calls promptly, assisting caller if necessary, helps to maintain daily schedule log and staffing assignments as necessary.
- Participates in special projects as assigned by the Echo Lab Supervisor.
