PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. As a leader of Radiology Service, the Assistant Chief shares responsibility for the overall operation of the radiology service with the Chief of Radiology Service and works under the direction of the Chief of Radiology Service. As a diagnostic radiologist, provides a spectrum of image interpretation, image-guided procedures and patient care services within the specialty of Diagnostic Radiology and may also possess additional subspecialty expertise. Shares the oversight of the clinical aspects of Radiology Service with the Chief of Radiology Service, including budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and program development, assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available resources. The Assistant Chief of Imaging Service will work with the Chief of Imaging Service to supervise on-board personnel, evaluate prospective new hires, oversee compliance with all applicable regulations, and assist the Chief in addressing patient and staff complaints, disciplinary actions, credentialing and peer-review issues, and inquiries and investigations from Congress, the White House, VA Central Office, and national investigative bodies.
