In compliance with applicable New York and New Jersey State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) is mandatory for all MSK employees, contingent workers, and volunteers. Exceptions are permitted for those employees who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.
*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.

The Exercise Oncology Service (Ex-Onc) conducts clinical trials to study the efficacy of structured exercise training interventions on cardiovascular outcomes in individuals before and during cancer treatment, as well as following the completion of therapy, across a broad range of cancer diagnoses.
The second major focus of our program is investigating whether exercise training is an effective treatment for cancer. We adopt traditional laboratory approaches to elucidate the effects and underlying mechanisms of exercise training on cancer progression as well as to determine whether exercise alters the response to conventional and novel cancer therapeutics. This information allows us to design more-effective clinical trials that test a precise "dose" of exercise in selected patient populations most likely to benefit from exercise training.

You will:
- Conduct pre-participation screening and administration of health and fitness assessments.
- Assist in the administration of resting as well as exercise based assessments as required by the specific Ex-Onc protocols (e.g., CPET, Bruce, 1RM, YMCA)
- Identification of symptom changes/signs of exercise contraindications and initiates the appropriate medical response and processes.
- Apply appropriate monitoring techniques and technologies to optimize physiologist testing and/or training sessions by assess resting and exercise vital signs and symptoms, including heart rate, electrocardiogram, blood pressure and oxygen saturation
- Operate EKG equipment, exercise ergometer, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope and saturation monitor.
- Accurate preparation, participant set-up and clean-up of metabolic measurement system
- Calibrate, operate and maintain exercise training equipment (e.g., treadmill, ergometers, sphygmomanometer, scales, heart rate monitors, resistance machines).
- Implement and optimally monitor protocol-specific exercise training sessions either onsite of via our Tele-Exercise approach.
- Understand and support Exercise Oncology Service research protocols, clinical procedures and proficiency in facilitating protocol-specific physiological testing and exercise training.
- Support the implementation of data collection methods for valid and reliable research.
- Monitor overall safety and cleanliness of exercise training location, reporting significant issues, equipment and process concerns to the EPS.
- Implements MSKCC standards as it relates to care and caution in protection confidential and sensitive information related to participants, personnel and staff.
You have!
- A Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field and 2 + years of professional or practical educational experience (ie: internship) in exercise prescription implementation and individualized exercise training in special populations
- Accurately measure resting and exercising heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and subjective measures of intensity (ie: RPE, Dyspnea, etc)
- The ability to conduct a safe exercise training session, ensuring appropriate monitoring of physiological parameters and providing encouragement and support throughout a session
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Personal Trainer, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, or Sport or exercise coaching certification a plus
