The Director of R&D and Clinical Outcomes at Optum Frontier Therapies will be on the team of an exciting new business serving patients with rare diseases, pharma manufacturers, and providers by dispensing and servicing therapies at the frontier of healthcare. As a new Optum business, we are building on our strengths but also challenging the status quo. The Director of R&D and Clinical Outcomes will be responsible for building and leading a team responsible for clinical services and affairs in an exciting new pharmacy model, focused on serving the emerging market of gene therapies and rare disease drugs. This role will work in close collaboration with patient advocacy groups, key opinion leaders, prescribers, and clinicians from rare disease centers of excellence to ensure seamless, individualized, and coordinated clinical experiences come to life for every patient we serve, every time. This leader will have a strong external orientation, representing our clinical services to life science companies, and being the face of the company with clinicians at centers of excellence for rare diseases, and industry events such as conferences and meetings. You will be accountable to the team who is establishing patient centric standard operating procedures, maintaining accreditation, and build a culture of clinical excellence and innovation. This role will report directly to the Chief Pharmacist. The Director of Patient Services & R&D will be responsible for continuous evolution of the Optum Frontier Therapies clinical strategy, execution of the strategy, and the development of metrics to assess success for all stakeholders. This role will partner closely with various leaders and departments across the organization including training & development, payers, regulatory, legal, client engagement, human capital, and pharmacy operations. This position will provide coaching, mentoring, and support in the development of staff and recognize individual and team success that result in a high-level of team engagement and commitment.

Responsible for clinical services and clinical affairs for rare disease pharmacy
Lead the team of clinical resource pharmacists that are dedicated to and designated as disease state experts that directly serve patients in clinician capacities
Be a resource and educator to internal business partners & external stakeholders to provide continuous documentation and education on the programs supported by Optum Frontier Therapies
Represent the business at internal & external meetings to include pharmaceutical presentations, conferences, poster presentations, and abstracts
Collaborates with site senior operations managers and the Director of Pharmacy Practice to ensure policies and procedures are developed and adhered to following accreditation and company standards
Collaborate on workforce management models to inform staffing needs in close collaboration with pharmacy operations, client strategy and business development team to forecast staffing to exceed client, provider, and patient expectations
Provide system needs to internal & external parties to ensure systems are built to capture the clinical outcomes required for each drug program and overall therapies supported by Optum Frontier Therapies
Develop in collaboration with training team all drug specific and therapy specific training programs to align with the objectives and strategy of Optum Frontier Therapies
Provide ongoing, continuous management oversight as a coach who is concerned with the growth and development of team members
Partner in development and implementation of operational and clinical processes that will ensure cost effectiveness and program compliance
Navigate a highly matrixed organization using strong relationship building skills and clear communication in both verbal and written form
Work with Senior Leadership to identify and drive resolution to any issues that may hinder program success
Participates in the strategic planning of budgeting and financing of program initiatives, especially in regard to planning goals for the future
Partner with all leaders to optimize the organizational structure and planning for strategic roles to best support team members and clients
Represent Optum Frontier Therapies to internal/external stakeholders
Develop metrics for self and direct reports that align to the overall objective for the business
Ensure performance is tracked accurately utilizing internal tools and processes
Participate in deep dive program reviews with relevant internal/external stakeholders to identify clinical opportunities for continuous improvement

Licensed Pharmacist in your State of Residence
5+ years of Team management Team management
5+ years of Operations experience
5+ years of experience leading direct reports
5+ years of experience with pharmacy accreditation
5+ years of direct patient interactions with demonstrated excellence in patient care and support
3+ years of experience with client presentations & RFP finalist meetings
3+ years of experience helping patients get access to medications working with payer and providers
Experience leading and developing a geographically dispersed, high performing team
Willingness to travel (~30%)
