Job Description Summary: The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) Research Administration Offices are seeking an engaged staff with relevant scientific knowledge and experience coordinating the Institutional Biosafety Program for human participants in research at KUMC. This position will provide regulatory/institutional guidance and administrative support to faculty, coordinate with internal and external IBCs, and provide support on IBC issues within the University and to The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS). Additionally, the position does include support the in the day-to-day functions of the IRB office. Duties include preliminary evaluation of research studies for completeness and identifying other federal and institutional requirements for the project.

Job Responsibilities:
Provide instruction and advice to researchers on regulations and research studies.
Develop and maintain databases for IBC submission forms; analyze and prepare required reports and disposition letters.
Develop standards, policies and procedures that facilitate compliance and serve as a resource to research personnel for human research involving IBC resources.
Develops and maintains databases of information related to biohazardous materials holdings around the University; maintains records of Institutional Biosafety Committee approvals for usage of biohazardous materials.
Coordinate between the various research and regulatory offices within the University, IB committees, the Biosafety Officer, and appropriate TUKHS offices.
Ability to travel to conferences and other organizational meetings.
Attend IRB meetings, inform members about institutional and regulatory requirements, and write meeting minutes.
Communicate committee review results to the study team and field questions regarding the IRB's conditions for study approval.
For research not requiring review by the convened IRB, determine readiness for non-committee review.
Process the electronic submission of all IRB submissions, including, but not limited to, amendments, problem reports, continuing reviews, and study closures.
Attend IBC meetings where feasible to assist research teams and PIs with feedback where applicable.
Assist with inspections of the clinical areas and assist with leading the outside inspectors around clinical areas when needed.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not usually subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in life sciences or public health or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience on a year for year basis. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Experience used to substitute education is in addition to any required work experience.
Work Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience of work in a research support office in an academic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or specialized background in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or other related field.
Work Experience: Minimum five (5) years' experience working in biosafety.
Skills
Demonstrated teamwork, client service, and decision-making skills, and ability to foster collegial and cooperative relationships with co-workers and clients.
Demonstrates exceptional written and oral communication skills in working with administrators, employees, research departments, health and safety staff Exceptional problem solving, and risk assessment skills.
Must be able to manage time and priorities effectively.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
