The Chief, Primary Care is a Physician that is board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. The Chief, Primary Care is responsible and accountable for the overall service leadership, policy planning, budget, operations and performance of the service line at all sites to include Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) and Healthcare Centers to achieve quality healthcare and outcomes The Chief Primary Care duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The incumbent coordinates the provision of evidence-based outpatient patient-centered care to our Veterans at the parent and three community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). The Chief-PC serves to provide the oversight necessary to ensure the highest, best and most efficient use of available resources to run a high performing outpatient service using a myriad of skills in applying patient flow technology and protocols, superior communication with clinical teams, and identifying and mitigating barriers and bottlenecks. Support the academic mission and oversee training and research opportunities. . Have outstanding professional ability in the practice of medicine or family medicine and the ability to guide the development and implementation of programs such as medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality, and performance improvement will be key to your success, along with a history of working and leading in an academic setting. Demonstrates sound interpersonal skills, decision making, teamwork and solid leadership. In addition, the incumbent provides oversight of the Medicine Residents, Medical Students and Fellows. The ideal candidate collaborates, guides, and supports physician assistants (PA) and nurse practitioners (NP) assigned to Primary Care. Major Duties: Oversee all aspects of the service including budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and program development, assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available resources. Ensure appropriate use of available resources and be responsible for inspiring, motivating, and guiding staff in achieving the strategic goals and plans of the service. Collaborate with other service chiefs and program managers. Performs clinical duties on a regular basis within delineated approved privileges. Participates actively in delivering in-service training for medical center disciplines and services; in teaching of medical school residents and medical students; and in supporting an environment that promotes academic excellence and encourages continual learning. Directs the continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the service. Responsible for financial and human resource management. Develops the annual strategic and budget plan consistent with guidance and goals from the Directors Office and/or Financial Management Service. Plans initiatives and develops programs in collaboration with other services to ensure coordination of service, reduction of redundancies, and enhancement of cost effectiveness. Promotes clinical and operational efficiencies to enhance programs and services, e.g. reduction in length of stay and reduction in appointment wait times. The Chief, Primary Care plans, implements and drive process changes that improve SAIL metrics. Participates in and attends medical center committees and leads Project Workgroups. Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the Medical Center. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, executive leadership, colleagues and other members of the health care team. The incumbent is expected to adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g. H&P, consult review, medication reconciliation, etc).
